A couple of Sundays ago, I went on a felting course, taught by Laura Brittain. These are her colourful bags. Felting, as we all discovered, is very physical. There is a lot of manipulation of the fibres, lots of water and soap. But to extract the thin layers of fibres from the wads of roving, before laying them down to create your design, you need a delicate touch. Then there is the element of surprise, you never know exactly how the design will turn out. This was the first piece we did, it was an exercise in discovering what happens with the fibres, before moving on to.............. making a bag! This is the back of the bag, and the front............. Not a bad amount of output for one day............ Laura Brittain can be contacted at: LauraBrittain@ecosse.net.
