A couple of Sundays ago, I went on a felting course, taught by Laura Brittain.
These are her colourful bags.
Felting, as we all discovered, is very physical. There is a lot of manipulation of the fibres, lots of water and soap.
But to extract the thin layers of fibres from the wads of roving, before laying them down to create your design, you need a delicate touch.
Then there is the element of surprise, you never know exactly how the design will turn out.
This was the first piece we did, it was an exercise in discovering what happens with the fibres, before moving on to..............
making a bag!
This is the back of the bag, and the front.............
Not a bad amount of output for one day............
Laura Brittain can be contacted at: [email protected].
it's lovely, I went on a felt bag course in the summer, and I'm going on a nuno scarf course in 3 weeks, can't wait!

Hi Vanessa
Well well well fancy finding Laura Brittain's bags on your blog, see that just confirms to me you have good taste!!
I SO love Laura's bags, I am not really a bag-lady but I do treasure a beautiful handmade bag by Laura that I saw at a Harrogate trade craft fair a few yrs ago. I was able to buy it at trade price (I was an exhibitor) and to me it was still a lot of money to pay but ohhhh I just had to take it home with me. It has given me So much pleasure wearing it on my shoulder and I get a huge ammount of compliments about it too.
Your bag is lovely and joyful, I bet you've you got jewellery to match?!
Love Lucy

Your felting is lovely. I really like the effect of felting, it makes such a nice fabric.

I love the bag you made. I've always been a little nervous of felting anything.
