I've a new Mole book just published....................

.......... It's called "The Best Gift of All", written by Jonathan Emmett, illustrated by me ................ It's a story about friendship, which attracted me to it in the first place............. And I'm now going to let Mole take you on a little tour of some of the book, all on his own.................

"Are you sitting comfortably?.......... yes........... now I'll begin........ ahem.......... "the Best Gift of All".......................".

So here we are........... yes......... ahem............. excuse me........ here we are............. at the beginning of a story about friends........... and, well........ how friends support each other............ that is........... how......... ahem............. my friends and I discovered the meaning of friendship............. next page........... ahem.................".

"Hello Squirrel................. COOEEE........... hello squirrel............ oh.......... deary me............. I forgot............ it's a picture of squirrel, and this is a story ................ I wonder what squirrel's doing right now.......... I wanted to ask him about............ oh, sorry.......... beg your pardon............. ahem............... back to the book...................".

............"Oooohhhhh, it's so exciting in this part of the story............. you see rabbit wasn't well............ and we had to find him..............and.......... well, I had to dig.............. and I just love, love, love to dig............... dig, dig, dig, dig, dig............... I think I need to go and do some digging............. I have to dig........... you understand? I have to dig, dig, dig ,dig dig............... Oooh!Ahem!................ Getting carried away there............. most impolite............. sincere apologies and all that............... Ahem, let's see.............. what can I show you next?"..................

"Wait............ isn't this the end?......... What about the rest of the book? ..................I've not shown you the rest of the book, or how it ends............. Ahem, I just don't understand............. Ahem...............".

"..........And what's this?............ The back of the cover............ well we really have reached the end of the book............ Ah! I've just remembered what I wanted to ask Squirrel, and there's something I needed to give to Hedgehog................. Rabbit!.......... How's Rabbit?!.......... I must find out how he is.............. I'm very busy you know.............. a very busy little mole"............

.............."Very busy mole is me.............. Got to go............ Very rude I know........... much apologies.......... mucho, mucho, mucho apologeosisosis............. Must dig, must find Squirrel, must see Hedghog and Rabbit................Too much to do, too little time.............. I'm panicking........... no I'm not panicking.......... I'm a calm little mole............... caaallmm............ caaallm................ calm.............. Ahem.............. Embarrassing myself............. Silly me............. Must dash............... Lovely to meet you and all that.............. Hope you enjoyed the book.............. Now where are they all?............ Rabbit?.......... Squirrel?......... Hedgehog?........... Are you in here?.................".

Congratulations on your fourth Mole book. All your creatures are so characterful. I love that you painted a red squirrel as opposed to a grey one. I've been catching up on your posts, it's a great shame that someone punctured your confidence and ruined your enjoyment of your "little paintings". Those little still lives of yours are neither silly or a waste of time. Please pick up your paint brushes, get out your favourite container and let your creative eye explore the beauty you see in the plants and flowers around you.

Congratulations Vanessa - how lovely that your friendly little mole should be so popular that there is a series of stories about him. And merchandising if I am not mistaken!
