Hello ! I promised the shortened version of the crochet pattern I gave you last week, so here it is.
Firstly, all of the yarns I used in this square, except one, were Patons 'Smoothie DK'.
The darker pink is Debbie Bliss 'Baby Cashmerino'. The light pink is colour 1092, from Patons. Also from Patons is the cream no. 1094, the mint no. 1095, and the green no.1010. The Debbie Bliss is a little thinner than a DK, but I'm just hoping I'll get away with it, in terms of it affecting the guage of the blanket as a whole, when the squares are sewn together . The Patons Smoothie DK is acrylic, but feels very soft, and has quite a nice sheen to it. At this stage, I haven't completed the blanket myself, so I'm not certain of the quantities of yarn needed, and I also don't know how many squares I'm going to have to do, mine is for a King size bed. Because these squares are quite big, it feels like less squares are needed!
Abbreviations:
ch = chain.
sl st = slip stitch
tr = treble
sp = space
CROCHET SQUARE
Base ring:
4 ch. Join with sl st.
Round 1:
5 ch (count this 5 chain as 1 tr and 2 ch). "3 tr into ring, 2 ch" x three times. 2 tr into ring. Sl st into third of 5 chain. (You should have four groups of 3 tr).
Round 2:
Sl st into next sp. 7 ch (count this as 1 tr and 4 ch). 2 tr into same sp, 1 tr into each tr across one side of square. 2 tr into next sp. 4 ch. 2 tr into same sp, 1 tr into each tr across one side of square. 2 tr into next space. 4 ch. 2 tr into same sp, 1 tr into each tr across one side of square. 1 tr into same sp as 7 ch. Sl st into 3rd of 7 ch. (You should have 4 groups of 7 tr).
Round 3:
Change colour. Crochet as in round 2. (You should have 4 groups of 11 tr).
Round 4:
Change colour. Crochet as in round 2. (you should have 4 groups of 15 tr).
Round 5:
Change colour. Crochet as in round 2. (you should have 4 groups of 19 tr).
Round 6:
Change colour. Crochet as for round 2. (you should have 4 groups of 23 tr). Cast off. Sew in all your ends.
Now for the flower, which is done seperately, and then sewn on.
FLOWER
Base ring:
4 ch, (leaving a long tail to sew the flower to your crochet square). Join with sl st.
Round 1:
(2 ch, 4 tr into ring, sl st into ring) repeat instructions in brackets 3 more times, so you have four petals in total.
Round 2:
Change colour. Sl st into BACK of SECOND tr. Keep working into back of petals. With yarn at back, (4 ch. Sl st into back of 2nd tr of next petal), repeat instructions in brackets twice more. 4ch. Sl st into first sl st.
Round 3:
(1 sl st, 5 ch, 1 sl st) into each loop created by your 4 ch. Sl st into next sp. Cast off. Sew all the ends in, (except the long tail from the base ring). Then sew your flower onto middle of crochet square. You're done! Hurrah!
Your cuppa is well deserved, Vanessa.
I spent yesterday crocheting your block and then dug out my hooks to find a smaller size. I 'think' I may want a smaller square, but not certain 'til I decide what the finished project will be. So will, in the meantime, make another square using a smaller hook.
You've done a very excellent job on the tutorial, couldn't have been more descriptive or more illustrated.
Our hats are off to you ! ! !

Brilliant! Well done Vanessa for such a great and thorough tutorial. xx

Thanks for that, Vanessa. I'm sure I'm more in the beginner camp so will appreciate the full blown explanation but maybe after a few squares I'll be working my way up the ranks?! I can't wait to see how your blanket turns out.
I thought of you tonight whilst I was reading the new CL mag. There is a set of oven gloves (how exciting) featured in the shopping pages at the front. But seriously, it says that you can get them in Daschund print!

You're a wonderful teacher, and so thoughtful, too! I'm looking forward to trying out the pattern, and I appreciate all your care, as I'm a beginner at crochet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from Singapore! I have done it...and it works!! A far better guide for beginners like me than any book I have seen. Only problem is, because of the heat and humidity here I have to keep the air-con on full blast all day (or wash my hands under cold water every 5mins) so our electricity bill is going to go sky high! Worth it though!
Thanks again; much appreciated. x

you've done excellent tutorials here, you definitely deserve that cuppa!
This week is running away from me, so there is little to no chance of me being able to get the supplies to make a start, even though I am itching to. Hopefully one day soon....
Sounds like you had a good weekend - ours had ups and downs, but fortunately more ups than downs. xx

I am loving the sisterhood blanket! Am joining soon. Have been thinking about my colours and saving my pennies for the wool.
Thank you for uplifting comment on my blog. When I do the next batch of cottages, if I make one nice enough, I'll pop it in the post to you as a thank you for all this tutorial work you've been doing.
Lots of love to you
and a HUGE hug xxxx

This is so pretty. I really love the pastels you have chosen. I've not done squares for a long, long time (bright, bold grannies way back then) and you have rekindled my interest - the flowers and colour tones make such a difference.

Hello Vanessa,
Your pattern is amazing and inspiring. I've never crocheted before, and am now doing your blanker, having completed 30 squares!
I'm now thinking of finishing it off and can't seem to find your blog on how to sew the squares together ... could you send me the link please.
Thank you!

Love your blog, your designs and your choice of colours. Good to know someone else out there likes seeing shapes in clouds! I love personifying trees too. Sometimes I could swear a tree is posing as a reader or dancer,bending to pick up a pebble or reaching up its hands in thanks. Is it just me??

What a beautiful blog site! I love the colors in your photographs and lettering. Very cheerful! I love the cupcake photos, and of course I'd love to try the recipe! I arrived here via a link posted on someone's crochet page on Facebook. Thank you for a wonderful place to visit and for sharing your world :)
On my photography website there is a gallery showing my most recent crochet project - Buttercup Babies. I hope you enjoy the photos.
Happy crocheting!
