Lovely to see you! How are you? You well? I hope so! The weekend is just round the corner, which means another week has flashed by. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a time warp. Sometimes I feel there aren't enough days in the week, or hours in the day, or even months in the year. I mean, was it not April a few seconds ago?!
Before I launch into the main focus of this post, I just want to hold my hands up about a typing error. (I think I ended last week gulping nervously, and admitting to a crochet error. This week it's a typing error). GULP! You know "Tara's failsafe cup cake recipe"? It's in my sidebar to the left. Well, I've corrected the typo now, but it did have the quantity of flour as being 100grm, when it should have been 110grm. I'm really, really sorry if you used the wrong amount and your cup cakes didn't turn out just so. It really isn't a little thing, I do appreciate that. I'm just praying that the 10grm difference didn't make too much difference. the thing is, in baking, it can make a difference, so I'm feeling very apologetic, and thinking you'll never trust my word again. I'm so, so, so sorry. I do hope you aren't too annoyed, or downright pissed off.
I'm now going to crawl on to the main subject of this post. It might actually make you feel slightly better if you're pissed off with me.......................
Do you remember this photo? I was showing you that I'd started to join the squares of my Sisterhood crochet blanket together. Well, I looked at it, and looked at it. And agonised a bit.
And then I went back to this photo. And I realised that the blanket I was joining together, was a different looking blanket to the one in the photo above. The newer version was a lot darker. I liked the darker one alright, but not as much as the lighter squares in the above photo.
So, rather than carrying on, I thought I'd better undo the squares I'd crocheted together. It's always an unpleasant thing, having to undo a lot of hard work, don't you think?
Now I have a lovely pile of crochet squares in a basket. Just waiting to be crocheted together! I've taken out the very dark squares, and put them to one side to hopefully be used in another project.
Here's my bag of yarn I keep beside my bed. Bizarrely, the amount of yarn doesn't seem to be depleting. I've begun to wonder how that's happening.
O.k. I admit it, I may have bought a few extra balls! You see I was getting a bit bored with my small range of colours, so one thing led to another, and hey presto, one huge Cath Kidston bag, full of yarn. (I sometimes wonder, if Cath Kidston did yarn, it would probably be fabulous colours wouldn't it?).
I'm crocheting with a lot of purples and greens at the moment. That will last till I've got bored of all the possible combinations of green and purple, then I might go on to.................... I don't know............... I don't know which colour combination I'll fancy doing next!
I know I promised to show you how I crocheted my squares together didn't I? I'm slightly paranoid about instructions, and the giving of them now, after my last two errors. But I'll give it a go anyway, this weekend, and if you spot anything wrong, please, please let me know, thank you so much. Still, I could look on the bright side, and tell myself that if I give you instructions that don't have a mistake in them, well, what a triumph that will be! A triumph over error! I try to look on the bright side, no, I should say, I like to look on the bright side of things!
So, my lovely readers, I shall love you and leave you now, for the weekend. And I look forward to seeing you on Monday, all happy and jolly! Take care, and I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Love Vanessa xxx
I am pretty sure that everyones cupcakes would have turned out okay. :D I hope you have a good weekend.

your crochet is looking so lovely! I love that you have such a feeling about what the finished design will be.
I dont think most scales measure accurately to 10g, so dont worry too much xoxox

Well, I've just made the cupcakes and they turned out really well, the first time I've ever made them and they weren't all pointy on top! The Munchkin is munching one as I write, a pirate themed one, ensconced in front of Meerkat Manor.
Have a fabby weekend.

Your squares are truly gorgeous. I do like the idea of the lighter looking blanket, the colours are so fresh, and spring-like.But the darker squares would be equally great for a cosy winter blanket.

Lovely squares and I know exactly what you mean about undoing your hard work but it nags at the back of the mind doesn't it if it's not quite right. Got a couple of bags too waiting to be restructured.

The Cath Kidston question of wool colours is actually a great challenge. There are times I buy some wool and think 'Ooooh, that is such a Cath colour'. Maybe later if I have the time I will do a post on my Cath inspired wools.

I should think everyone is just grateful that you take the time and effort to post these tutorials and ideas (I know I certainly am), so what if there's a little typo, I'm sure it wouldn't affect things at all.
The lighter colours are lovely, but like someone else mentioned above, the darker shades will be very appealing as cosy winter blanket - I think all this sunshine and warm weather makes us look for lightness and brightness,
Hope you have a lovely weekend. xx

Don't worry about the typo - until recently I had a set of scales that could vary 10g either side of the actual weight it read and it never caused me any major problems!
I think I prefer the lighter colours too

Poor Vanessa - what a day! You would never be happy with the blanket if you continued with the darker version. In the back of your mind you would always be thinking - "I wish I'd undone it!! I hate undoing stitching but it will all be worthwhile when you complete the blanket because it will look fabulous!

wonderfully brave of you to undo and redo - although I can't see how you could go wrong with such lovely colours altogether! t.x
(i never bake a cake without weighing the eggs and I tally everything else to that - when eggs come straight from the farm the variety of shapes and sizes has no respect for recipes in grams or ounces!! xx)

The bag of yarn is beautiful. You really shouldn't use it, it's way too pretty to disturb.
Can a bag of yarn alone be given ornamental status? Yes I think so.

Hi, I saw the link to your blog on Attic24. Looking forward to having a browse.
I have one of those Cath Kidston bags and mine is full of yarn too!

I hate it when you have put a lot of work into your crochet, then realised you have made a mistake, and so have to undo it all, it has happened to me a few times in my journey to been a happy hooker, it is just awful!
Have a lovely weekend Vanessa. xxxx

Stop stressing - my cupcakes turned out super yummy and were not a disaster - the fact that my crew devoured them before I had a chance to ice them was proof to that :)
I did think though that they tasted a bit eggy... so maybe the extra lil bit of flour might make a bit of difference to that but then again - maybe not?
I love your crochet squares and the colour combos are great.

So glad that I am not the only person who puts in hours of effort only to pull it undone. It takes a true gift to "see" the finished article don't you think? I believe I have now earned a doctorate in unpicking as I've done so much of it. Love the purple and green.

Oh I don't know how you could bear to (or is it bare to? I never know).
Am off to have a look at your beginners crochet instructions as I have wanted to do this for yonks. Finished a tapestry last night so I'm OK to start a n other project.

I hate having to rip work back Vanessa. I have just had to unstitch an embroidery which I got so furious with that I decided it was easier to bin it and begin again! Not good. Very lovely of you to do tutorials at all xx

You were absolutely right, now is much more beautiful. If you didn't undo it, each time you look at the blanket you'd be thinking : I should have ...
And now it's done and it is gorgeous!!!!!
