It is hot and sultry in Den Haag, it is 7pm and 26 degrees with thunderstorms about. I don't think I can face crocheting the ripple tonight with this sweaty weather.
Love your heart - it makes something pretty out of rubbish - lovely.

Lululiz

Cute heart! Its just lovely how the simplest things make the prettiest pictures.
If I leave bits of wool like that lying around anywhere, even for just a few mins, the doggies dive in and spread the bits everywhere as soon as my back is turned. I used to love having a heap of little bits on my table or on the arm of the settee when working, but I had to stop that, they have to go straight into the little waste basket now.

Tola

the summer heat makes me quite uncomfortable and miserable, so i would love to be in your part of the world right now! as for your lovely yarn bits, my knitting group saves all the yarn bits and puts them out in the spring to help the nest-building creatures. all my bits are currently being kept safe in an old biscuit tin.

love, tola

Alyson

I save up lots of yarn and put it outside. I like to think that it becomes parts of birds' nests.

The yarn heart is fabby, a veritable piece of modern art. The weather is rubbish here too. I rather fancy being Richard Branson and jetting off on my private jet to the Caribbean!

Mummy Boo Bear

Lovely heart. All those pretty colours.

Yes the weather here in my little dusty (well soggy at the mo) part of england is as everwhere WET! but I have to say I dont mind the bad weather (right misery in hot weather - so I was a joy to be around a few weeks ago!)although my eldest is finishing school soon and the weather is not conjuring up summer holidayish thoughts I have to admit.

I am praying for nice (not too hot) weather though in August we are camping again! dont fancy that at the best of times let alone in the rain. lol

As I write this,I have little piles of yarn next to me. I am making another crochet 'granny square' bag as a present for someone - you have definitley got me 'hooked'! I must admit; sewing the squares together isn't my favourite part of the process.

The weather is lousy here too! I can hear the rain on the conservatory roof and I have a pile of soaking wet washing that I cannot ignore any longer. Hopefully, the weather will improve soon - I am hoping to drive up towards Corbridge towards the end of the week and don't fancy taking umbrellas and raincoats!

I love walking along the walls at Berwick; although I must admit I haven't visited for a while. I'll have to put it on my 'places to visit soon' list!

Much love, Jane x

Funny - reading your images of Spain just made me have visions of Clint Eastwood and ugly unshaven men shooting each other to the tune of a music box.... but that's because I have the misfortune to be married to a spaghetti western fan - and I'm a bit muddled with my imagery... Sunshine and showers here - we've taken to having days out and ensuring that there is a change of dry clothes in the boot of the car - can't let it get you down! t.xxx

I save the little ends of yarn for tiny little things ,I like the way you photographed your yarn !

Hi Vanessa,
Love the heart, I too hate to throw out the bits of yarn and because I live in the middle of the country like your other reader I put it outside over the wall into the field next door which is also ours, I think also that animals take it and use it for nests, or else the borrowers take it for crochet!!
Lucky you having your mum and dad living in Sunny Spain, giving you a great excuse to pop over for a visit if you are feeling totally down with the weather! It has been awful here in Ireland this afternoon with really bad thunder and lightening and torrential rain at times too! Hopefully the sun will come back out tomorrow!

Hi Vanessa, Its stormy and wet here in Sussex but also very warm and muggy. My cousin lives in Spain and two nights ago the temperature was 36c when I spoke to her at 9.00pm - a bit too hot for me. My bits of thread are pinched by my youngest son to stuff old socks with to make puppets. Your heart is lovely and how gorgeous to be able to see your lovely town walls. I haven't been there for years. Karenx

Dragonfly

I have little piles of yarn everywhere too! I might start putting them out in the garden in the hope of spotting some multi-coloured nests too!
Do you crochet over some of the ends as you go when you change colour? On my Babette, I'm finding I only have to sew in the first and last yarn and can just snip off the rest as they are under a good couple of inches of crochet - saves loads of time!

Laura

I DO love the heart of yarn!

Kendall

The yarn heart is so cute!
How many colors did you use? Love it.

It's been very hot here (B.C, Canada) owing to the three forest fires that have been blazing for the past few days. Hoping to get a respite from the heat soon.

Have a lovely evening!

Nicola

35 degrees here and we'd love some of your rain please...if you don't want to throw out your yarn ends, you could put them in a glass jar and call it yarn jam!

Tola

Nicola, i love your idea and i just totally stole it! my yarny bits arent as pretty as Vanessa's, but it will do!

Pipany

Oh it's awful here too Vanessa. So cold and cheerless. Still, your pictures made me smile x

The Curious Cat

A very inventive use for spare wool! I like!

Maggie

Well, I just love that heart, what a shame you can't keep it, perhaps spray it with hair spray - I wonder why people stopped calling it LACQUER?
And isn't people watching a lovely wasteful way of passing the time? Since I rearranged my work room I can now see easily out of the window, whereas before it was behind me to my right and I had to twist round to nosey out of the window. Trouble is, on some days, like when they set up a farmers market outside the village social club, which is across the road and down a bit, I do tend to spend too much time on the people watching.

Jennyff

Such pretty scraps, at least you've made something artistic with yours. I put all my bits of pure wool and cotton into the compost, I empty the hoover into the compost too. With all the garden and kitchen waste I actually have more compost that I can cope with but I'm not complaining.

Alice Saltiel-Marshall

Since you asked ... it has been deliously wonderful here ... finally! Sunny and hot, it promises to reach 30C today.
I've been painting outdoors a lot. You can see photos of all this on my website's blog page ...
www.artbysaltiel.com
I'm heading off now, to my new pal's house on top of a bald hill where we can see 'forever' to finish a couple of paintings I started the other day.
I continue to enjoy your blog and would love to see a photo of the walking people reflected in your computer screen!
Cheers, Alice

Bonnie Slager

Such a cute picture, it does look quite simply artsy for sure. Would be perfect in my craft room :)

Calico Kate

Love the pictures Vanessa. Hadn't thought of putting snippings out for nests, though they sometimes end up in the compost - which gets processed first by mum's chickens - I wonder if they think they are a new type of worm!
I read a book well it is a series of books set around a sewing/knitting shop in America a sort of Mills and Boon but in a mystery murdery genre - the shop is called Crewel World. The central chracter buys glass globes for people to fill with their snippets as Christmas decorations. I haven't seen anything like that here, for a while I thought I would collect them and put them in a glass jar to be pretty then decided I didn't need the clutter. I always put out the dog and cat fur whenever I brush them in case the birds want some furry lining for their next. Do like the thought of a Kaffe Fassett nest turning up on Springwatch!

Great pics. Once you've finished playing with your yarn bits you can always save them up for stuffing.

Chars

Very pretty 'ORTS' yes thats the official name for those little scrappy colourful bits and pieces :)

Have you ever considered putting them into a glass jar and making a work of art and displaying them :)

This is what I do :) I collect all my little bits and pieces from my crochet/knitting and my stitching and put them into a little jar.

I joined the totally useless stitch along - you can read the info here...

Each month on the new moon you display a picture of your ort collection on your blog. I am a couple of months behind with pictures as I never remember - but I just noticed that its time to post a pic so I will snaffle hubbies camera later and upload a pic :)
