Oh hello! What a lovely weather day we've had today, put's you in a good mood doesn't it? Hope you're well? You fancy seeing another splash of colour today? You do! Fab.
Another splash it is then.
I almost feel like I need to get my wellies on, because it's positively raining colour in our house at the moment.
Or maybe I should go barefoot, and without a rain hat or coat, and just splish, splash splosh in the puddles of colour.
I like the idea of getting my hair soaked with the colours of the rainbow.
During my lunch break today, I fished some old copies of Country Living magazine (the English version) off the shelf, and had a browse. I love doing this, because I never remember the details of each issue, so it always comes as a nice fresh surprise as I turn the pages.
As I looked at an August 2005 issue, I was struck how timeless Country Living is, which I think shows what a superb magazine it is, consistently so.
So you see my Little Squares scarf is taking shape! I've been loving the joining together of the colours, it's been like playing with sweets, so much fun. And the sewing goes quickly, it's not a bind at all, perfectly pleasant occupation infact. The only nuisance has been when I run out of a colour, and I have to stop and crochet some more squares, (but that's hardly a nuisance really).
Well dear reader, another day, another post, another touching base and seeing your friendly face in my mind's eye. And yes, another cheerio till tomorrow!
Love Vanessa xxx
Wow! that is a colour explosion today sweetie, I am going to have another look x

The scarf looks lovely, I can't wait to see the finished item.

Oh wow, how can it be even more gorgeous than yesterday????

Hello Vanessa, Your scarf is much nicer than that one in Country Living which was way overpriced. Your colours are gorgeous as usual; I expect you are looking forward a teeny bit to autumn so you can wear it. I love looking at back issues of Country Living. I have every one from January 1991 and I endlessly look through them and keep piles of favourite articles by my bed. Glad you had a good day weatherwise - we had some much needed rain down here. This is so pretty - what are you using to sew the pieces together - it looks like regualar sewing thread or does it just look that way??? Anyway - another beautiful project by Vanessa!!

The scarf is looking SO beautiful, it looks very soft, fluid.

I love the colors.. one more thing on my project list!

Hi Vanessa,
Ah, it's looking fabby, very droolsome. I'm looking forward to seeing you in your winter woollies, scarf flying in the breeze (or maybe firmly tucked round your neck to keep out the cold). Personally, I think Ellie would look very nice in it or perhaps a little doggy coat version?!
I often look back through CL mag, I have a file of them at the side of my bed, several files in my den and errm, even more files in the "grown ups" living room. I don't always remember them until I open the pages and I still "re-enjoy" them but I do have certain fave issues which are usually from the Summer, filled with roses and picnics and berries. I even buy old copies at car boot sales, either ones I haven't got or (stranger still?) ones I have got because then I can keep one copy pristine and cut the other one up for my scrapbook! When we were looking for a cottage to buy in the West Country, we stayed at an old farmhouse B&B and it wasn't the best (or worst) place I've stayed but joy of joys, there was a whole magazine rack of old CLs I'd never read just waiting for me to devour. Heaven...

Love your analogy of it 'raining color' and 'sploshing in puddles of color' in your barefeet -- gave me a fun and joyful feeling inside to picture it --Thank You

that scarf is sure to turn heads this winter... fantastic!!
Posted by: monica | August 26, 2009 at 08:20 AM
So it's going to be a scarf? I've seen some photos of the little squares before and din't know what you were going to turn them into... and now I can finally picture the finished project I think it's really good! Wearing it you'll definately be the center of attention :)
P.S. Country Living is perfect! I don't have a chance to buy it often (as I don't live in the UK), but I keep looking at the old issues that I've got and I always find so many nice things, no matter how many times I've seen them before :)
Posted by: Kristina | August 26, 2009 at 08:59 AM
Interesting that you use thread to sew the squares together, and not the yarn of each square, which is how I have always done it. Is there any particular reason you do it this way?
Posted by: maggie | August 26, 2009 at 10:20 AM
Lovely weather? We had rain :o(
But stopping by your blog sure does highlight the day with all the lovely colours....it brightens up my day no end.
And....makes me even more determined that when B and M are back at school next week - I WILL LEARN TO CROCHET!! Or at least, try! Haha xx

ps. may I ask what you use to join the square together as I am very new to this crochet lark - many thanks, Nxx

loved the idea of splashing about in rainbows of colour - certainly needed it today as it's been nothing but rain and grey skies here, most depressing, but your post certainly cheered me up - those little squares do remind me of sweeties - was it Tutti Frutti that came in all sorts of lovely colours ?
Am amassing a collection of CLs here too - have had them on subscription this year, and it's lovely to dip in to one and re-enjoy it all - I particularly like how each one is so linked to the season/month. xx
Posted by: Julie | August 26, 2009 at 04:12 PM
I don't know if I'd have the patience for all that sewing up. Are you going to leave it so the side squares are detached from each other, so keeping the "frilly" look?
Posted by: Nicola | August 26, 2009 at 04:24 PM
Lovely, lovely, lovely! The colours looks great together, you've inspired me to get on and order more yarn! x

What wonderful colours, my first visit here and I feel like I topped up my colour tanks.
The finished scarf promises to be wonderful - and your Sisterhood of Crochet blanket is glorious.

Like the way that you are joining up those pretty little squares. The color progressions are lovely.
I am currently working on a knitting project designed to try to create a great Christmas present while simultaneously using up lots of vintage yarns. Doing this with wool in NYC during the month of August will show how fond I am of the intented recipient.
Once finished with this, I return quickly to crochet. Much faster results.

Though I'm more of a neutrals kind of person, I LOVE seeing your splashes of colour! So happy.
And I share your fondness for Country Living magazine (UK version). It's a bit pricey here in Canada, but I can't resist picking up a copy every month. It's like taking a little vacation in the English countryside. Sigh...

Would you want some old (1985-1990) copies of Country Living? I was about to throw them away and then decided I'd Google to see if anyone would want them.
Thanks,

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement? My website has a lot of completely unique content I've either created myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization. Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being ripped off? I'd truly appreciate it.
