Hello! Thought I'd take a break from work to pop in and say hello. AND show you some new paintings.
The paintings I did for the two commissions I completed.
The two ladies who commissioned me, are friends with each other, and they have similar tastes, and maybe even similar coloured furnishings in their homes, if the colours they specified for their pictures are anything to go by.
With my illustration background, and being used to having to work to someone elses specifications, it came very naturally to me to go along with their colour requests.
That's something I would be happy to do in the future, if someone wanted me to work with their favourite colours, or certain colours they had in mind, I think it could lead to some interesting results.
The two commissions were to do two sets of four small paintings, in the colours I've used in all these paintings. The ladies want to frame each one individually, and have a set of four paintings on their walls.
That was something interesting that came out of the commission, the idea of doing a set of four paintings, that would sit well with each other to make a pleasing whole.
So! On Thursday, off I went, armed with four sets of four paintings, so that there would be plenty for them to choose from.
I made sure I looked presentable, because I felt like I was going to an important meeting.
And I felt surprisingly calm, considering my previous nagging feeling that there was the potential they might not be happy with them.
In my experience, expect the unexpected.
On Thursday, the unexpected thing was that only one of the ladies could make it to our meeting, because one of them is very poorly.
One of the ladies was at the appointed meeting place, fortunately, and so I could show her the paintings. I was hugely relieved that she liked them.
Phew.
The paintings she chose are the set of four in the photo above, which surprised me, because I didn't think this set would be chosen. As soon as she saw them, she said, they're the one's. You can never, ever know who is going to choose what, I'm learning that very quickly.
The rest of the paintings are going to the other lady's house, where she can make her choice at her leisure.
The first lady was very pleased with her choice of paintings, which was wonderful but strange, as I'd told myself to not be surprised if they were rejected.
So isn't it wonderful that the paintings were so well received! I hope the second lady finds it equally easy to choose her set of four paintings.
I've been nose to the grindstone all day, (with too much drinking of tea going on), and it's nice to have a break and come and say hello.
The only thing about working very intensely, is the fuzzy side-effect, and the inability to think about anything else other than work. So now I've come to the end of talking about work, I don't know what else to say, I've drawn a blank..............Oh, Ellie's kennel cough has gone, but Douglas now has it, and is coughing a lot, poor little thing. They don't seem the least bit perturbed about the lack of walks, due to them having to stay indoors. I think that's Dachshunds for you, they are a little lazy. I think their idea of the good life is lying infront of a wood fire whilst being fed tid-bits, not moving their little legs.
Well, I'm going to wish you a happy Easter, and hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take care, and cheerio. Love Vanessa xxx
Congratulations, Vanessa, that is wonderful. I think we all knew your work would be well received. They are lovely paintings, gorgeous colours. Have a wonderful Easter, all of you, hope Douglas makes a swift recovery.

Hi Vanessa - looks like it's been a long day! The paintings are gorgeous, congratulations on your success with Lady #1. I have no doubts about Lady #2. Your forms are so evocative. Of pebbles, water, molecules, clouds. Lovely work! Have a wonderful Easter Weekend!

Happy Easter to you, too! I am sure the second lady will be just as delighted as the first with her paintings. They're all so beautiful!

I love those paintings - even more than the first abstracts possibly. I think the striping adds a new dimension. I'm so glad your meeting went well but not surprised at all that you have a happy customer. Have a Happy Easter. Claire x

Have a wonderful Easter - I love the paintings, and am glad they had such a positive reception.
Hugs to little Douglas - all the dachshunds I've known (we had 4 when I was little, and did some small time breeding over the years) seem to think a "walk" is what you do to get to the food bowl!

Vanessa, they are lovely. They are my favourites of all the abstracts you've done to date, although that could have something to do with the colours, which are one of my favourite combinations. I'm not in the least surprised that Lady No 1 was so pleased, and I'm sure Lady No 2 will be equally delighted. Hope you are going to have a good break over the weekend, and hope you have a very happy Easter. x

Happy Easter. x

Dear Vanessa, I am very pleased that your meeting went well and that you enjoyed the results of working to spec. I am not surprised the pairings fared well as I myself love them (I have a thing for hot pinkish hues...).
On the subject of kennel cough, you may want to have the little darlings vaccinated. These days the vaccine lasts a full 12 months, unlike a few years back, and it is particularly important that slightly older dogs have it done as it can be lethal to them. Imagine that, dying of a cough! I have two dals, William and Victoria, and they have never had a prob thanks to the vaccine! Enjoy the Easter hols and see you soon!

Vanessa, it's no surprise that the commissioner liked your paintings. Each of these abstracts is wonderful, and could stand on its own, as well as be good company for a group showing.
I think that I know what you mean about how one's mind does go into a very strange spin after being tested a lot for many days in a row. It's good when this condensed schedule does find us doing lots that we do enjoy ... even if it truly is a lot of lots.
Happy Easter to you! xo

Happy Easter Vanessa,
Whew! All those floating blues and reds - beautiful!
I know that tongue tied, brain fixed in work-mode, state of being. I'm sure a day off and time for a cuppa and slice of cake will put things aright.
Best wishes
Celia

Happy Easter Vanessa! Those painting are beautiful no wonder they were well liked. Remember no chocolate for little furry friends, it doesn't agree with them no matter how pleadingly they look at you :-)

These are great
They remind me of easter eggs strangely or maybe that's what's on my mind.
You could perhaps list the surplus one's in your etsy store so we can buy them.
Take care and Happy Easter to you and yours.

The paintings are beautiful, and very restful. I'm so glad the day went well. Poor Douglas and the cough, I hope it gets better soon. Higgins runs and hides as soon as his jumper/lead are brought out and really behaves as if a walk is torture, although once he's out he has a lovely time. Funny little dog! Have a lovely Easter, Penny x

Being Easter, my first thought when seeing your paintings was "jelly beans - beautiful, cheery, happy jelly beans" They are wonderful and marvel at anyone that can create, draw, and paint as you do! I can't imagine how anyone could not be happy with those paintings and smile every time they look at them. :-) Everyone should have one to look at every day and smile!

Hello Vanessa.
I love your colors. They are so pretty and perfect for spring. I work at home, too with two Chihuahuas and my husband, so I think I understand when you say you think about your work all the time. Hope you had a lovely Easter.
